Aloha Friday

An Island Life is hosting Aloha Friday.. I thought it would be fun to participate. All you have to do is answer the question I ask by leaving a comment. Then click over to An Island Life and link up to Aloha Friday with your own question!

My Question is:
Have you had a family member or friend with Alzheimers? How did you deal with it?

Feel free to link up your Aloha Friday Question below with Mr. Linky.

I help take care of my grandmother.. and she developed dementia and alzheimers. It is really difficult. Just takes a lot of patience and love.

No, I haven't had experience with that. I have heard it's incredibly challenging to deal with.

My Mom seems to be showing some signs lately; my dad takes care of her.

My grandfather, who I was not very close did. This makes my mother very nervous...she and her siblings are aware that it is genetic. They all give each other "Brain Games" every time they see each other. They sit around and see who can complete their Sadaku first. It's actually a good bonding thing.

My best friends grandpa just died and he had it. She was always upset because he never remembered who she was. I can imagine it's very tough to deal with.

My grandmother had it, It was hard on me for her not to remember me, we were close before that happened!

My father's great aunt was diagnosed with it. I was so young at the time. I just recall being told that she did not remember us and would always think we were people from her distant past. It was very sad.

No, but I worked for a geriatric psychiatrist at the Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA during college. So I purely saw it from the clinical side. How about you?

Fortunately I haven't had a friend or family member with Alzheimer's. I do worry about my dad though, he's 80 years old. I can't even imagine how painful and stressful it would be.
